Last Sunday the club runners tackled the difficult Kinross Forrest track in slightly testing conditions with 42 starters. Leading the way in the 2km run was the father and son combination of Craig Penrose (11:21) and Bailey Penrose (12:36), but splitting the pair to pick up second spot as well as the overall handicap win was Brett Sammutt (11:40). Of the ladies Leanne Cureton (18:08) was the first to cross the finish mats over the 2km run, while Norma Bradley (18:30) was not far behind. The 4.8km run was the most tightly contested run of the day with Amber Rich running the fastest time overall of 22:56, to lead home Ella Lamrock (25:01) and Alison Spurway (28:43) in the girls and the boys, including the competitive top three of Jack Daintith (23:52), Alistair Merrifield (23:54) and Noah Lamrock (23:58).

Over the longer 9.1km’s, Iain McLean (38:53) was the standout performer as he finished clear of Daryl Roweth (44:30) and Alex Irwin (47:43). Ursula Wilson (47:20) was the pacesetter of the ladies, finishing ahead of Jess Quinn (57:50) and Kim Jarvis (60:30). Alison Broughton may have ran a time of around 54 minutes for the 9.1km distance but did not appear on the results.

 

At the world masters Championships held in Perth recently, John West competed in the 5000m track walk where he finished 12th (33:26), 10,000m road walk (67:47) finishing 13th and 7th in the 20km road walk in 2h21m. In each race he was the first Aussie finisher.

 

On Wednesday night before the run took place, Ursula Wilson was recognised for completing 200 runs, Gareth Thomas 300, Glenys Rosser 600. In the run Rikky Bangert ran 11:10 to be the fastest of the 69 starters, while Amber Rich ran 11:54 to secure this week’s fastest female title. One of our newer members, Claire Stutchberry  who ran an overall time of 16:36 for a 56s personal best time. The overall handicap winner was Naomi Sunderland who ran a time of 15:43

 

Don’t forget to go to the runners club website and register and pay the small fee, for the Christmas Party, which is on the 3rd of December at the Bowling Club. Also the running festival committee are looking for some help over the next few months.

 

This week the Sunday club run is at Elephant Park with a one hour challenge starting at 9am. The challenge is to see how many laps you can walk or run inside the hour.
