While most snoozed and watched cricket and yachts over Christmas/New Year there was little rest for the Orange Runners Club. After hitting the track in festive wear on their Christmas Eve run they were back for the New Years Eve’s Sunday run at Endeavour Oval burning off the turkey and ham.

On Sunday 83 runners completed the 2.3, 5.2, 7.8 and 10.4. Team Vidler was back again and in amongst the 10.4 finishers which was taken out by Daryl Roweth and Leanne Corcoran. Sheree Ryan beat John Hannan in a sprint to the finish to be the overall winner. Holiday makers the Gibsons were also spotted after a few weeks beachside.

The rest must have paid off for dad Dave as not only did he slice time off his Elephant Park 3km PB at Wednesday’s run but he was also declared the winner. Others to record PBs were impressive new member Tim Murphy and Nick Bolton representing the consistent Bolton family.

Meanwhile in Hobart’s Salamanca Place the Kitto family crossed the line in the annual Race to the Taste as part of the Taste of Tasmania food and wine festival. Joel completed the 6km while Sally and Josephine did the 3km in typical Hobart conditions and may have been seen sampling the festival fare at the wharf afterwards.

Mid week saw everyone’s favourite couple the Connelleys celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Congratulations and well done Tanya.

Are you looking for a running goal for 2018 as motivation? Perhaps the half marathon at the Orange Running Festival? NSW regional distance championship? Marathon in Canberra in April? Or the classic city to surf? There are lots of events to challenge us outside the club’s regular runs with some entries now open so keep an eye out on Facebook for ideas.

Tomorrow’s run is back at Elephant Park with a backwards route. Don’t forget to hydrate given the temperatures over the weekend and happy new year all.
