Hello members

Welcome to 2015 and I hope that the year is kind to you and everyone enjoys good health and happiness.

The first calendar event for us is of course the most important – The Orange Colour City Running Festival. This is our event… and of course it is up to us to support the new committee and help out in any way we can to ensure the continual success of this now widely recognised regional running event. The new committee have been working very hard and I tip my hat to each and every one of them. All of them were new members to the club, and they were all strangers to each other, so when they got together for the very first time it was a case of introducing themselves. From that initial meeting firm friendships have been made and together they have come together to put their best foot forward and run this event for us. No one else in the club was willing to put their hand up so we must all be thankful to these new members for making the event go ahead.

If you haven’t already put your name down to volunteer and help out with the setting up and dismantling of the event, please do so – you know the old saying “many hands make light work”. Also, if you have not registered to run please get on line and do so. The earlier you do this helps the committee. Please be aware that all entries are on-line only, therefore you cannot just rock up at the venue and expect to register your name, it just won’t happen.

Another couple of dates for your calendar are 2nd February and 9th February 2015. Dan Benton is offering all current members of ORC two free training sessions at Riawenna Oval commencing at 5.15 p.m. prompt. Dan will put us through our paces with drills, teach us correct running technics and to run without causing injury. Sounds like hard work but also sounds like some good advice for us all.

PhysX are coming to Elephant Park on 25 February 2015 at 5.30pm to meet up with everyone after our run and go through some cool down and stretching exercises. It would be great if members could stay back for an extra 10 minutes to participate in this session.

The AGM for ORC will be held early April and once a firm date and venue has been confirmed I will let you all know. Please come along, this is your chance to voice your opinion, suggestions or any ideas which you consider will make our club work better. All yearly subscriptions are due on 1 April 2015 and it will be necessary for each member/family to complete a registration form, which are available on our website or at each run.

Next month we will be having a relay at Elephant Park on 8th February 2015. This is a great event, and also gives you the chance to meet other members of ORC. The relay consists of teams of two and there will be a prize for the fastest team and a prize for the handicap winners. We will also be having four lucky draws and a free BBQ. Please come along and join in the fun.

We had a new run at Gosling Creek this month which by all reports was well received, so will include it on our future calendars. A very big thank you to Mike Cooper, Pete Mueller and Billy for spending a lot of time working out the track and then marking it on the day. For the not-so-faint-hearted we head to Stagecoach Road at the end of February…. I won’t say anything more about that one and wait for all the “descriptive” comments after the event.

Thank you to the people who have indicated they will carry the mats for 2015. This month the mats have been transported by John and Carol Moss – thank you so much for your time and help.   Saying that, we still need more people to volunteer. If you would like to help out please see any of the committee to get your name on our roster. Talking about volunteering and helping out, we are always looking for people to learn the computer system. If you are interested in seeing how the other side of things work please have word with Michael Sharp.

If anyone has anything they need to discuss with the committee please feel free to contact myself, Graham, Mike or Billy.

Happy running.

Jane Fairgrieve

ORC President.
