Last Summer run for the Orange Runners’ Club

 In CWD Articles

Tomorrow the Orange Runners’ Club will host its last Summer Run. It will be at Kinross Forest at 9am, where there is a choice of 3k or 9k. Then we go back to 10am starts as of next week. The Wednesday 3k run at Elephant Park is still the same, starting at 5pm.

Last Sunday we met at the Botanic Gardens, but it wasn’t to admire the flowers. Though Jim Rich, Neil Williams and Tom Gleeson did stay back after the run to sample an apple or two! Ideal running conditions attracted 82 people to the run, which consisted of 2 or 5 x 1.6k loops around the gardens. Greg Delaney was the handicap winner.

Overall results for the Botanic Gardens were 3.2k Men: 1st Mitch Williamson (11.12), 2nd Kieren Syme (12.45), 3rd Mitch Collins (15.52); 3.2k Women: 1st Nicole Williamson (15.11), 2nd Carrie Williamson (16.08), 3rd Shannon Syme (16.11). 8k Men: 1st Tom Gleeson (29.11), 2nd Neil Williams (31.17), 3rd Jared Sullivan (33.23); 8k Women: 1st Melissa Watson (34.47), 2nd Karen Neal (38.32), 3rd Estelle Dean (38.43).

On Wednesday 91 members turned up to Elephant Park for our mid week run. Charlotte Simmons was the handicap winner on the day. Personal best times were recorded by Kinisha Roweth (2 seconds), Jack Daintith (15 sec), Ian Crafter (23 sec) and Katie Hennessy (29 sec). Like usual the ironmen (Dan Benton, Paul Eccleston and Dave Selwood) were at the park. They were doing 1k laps when we got there and still doing laps when we left! Kyle Ostini and Tristan Harrisson kept them company for a while, but they are not training for such long distances as they are too young (maybe they might do an ironman some time in the future!).

This time next week preparation for the Colour City Running Festival will be well underway. It is still not too late to participate in the 5k, 10k or 21k runs, with entry forms being available online at www.orangerunners.com.au You can even enter next Saturday 5th March (between 2-4pm at the start/finish area) and even right up to race day, Sunday 6th March (between 6.30-7am), but no credit card facilities are available on these 2 days. The start/finish area for the fun runs is located near the Ex Services Country Club at Bloomfield Hospital. All of this would not be possible if it wasn’t for our many sponsors, with John Davis Motors being a major sponsor that we would like to thank.

Just a reminder that The Orange Runners’ Club will be at the Experience Orange Expo, Seymour Street, this Sunday 27th February (9am to 4pm). General information about the club and entries for the Colour City Festival will be available.

As of next week, Bill Fairgrieve and Judy Tarleton will take over the editorial position that both myself and Brian Penrose occupied over Summer.

Tom Gleeson.
