Beautiful one day, terrible the next

What better way to spend a beautiful Winter’s Sunday morning than going for a jog? 83 members from the Orange Runners’ Club did just that last Sunday at Bargwanna Road. Daryl Roweth was again the standout performer, taking out handicap honours in what has been a great year for him. Who knows, maybe a candidate for Runner of the Year! Other results 3k Men: 1st Martin Davis (14.34), 2nd Bill Fairgrieve (15.20), 3rd Noah Whitely (16.16); 3k Women: 1st Jane Fairgrieve (16.06), 2nd Bec Fairgrieve (16.53), 3rd Sal Kitto (19.19). 5k Men: 1st Mitch Williamson (21.29), 2nd Jack Daintith (21.44), 3rd Peter Mueller (22.39); 5k Women: 1st Laura Wolfson (21.07), 2nd Amber Rich (21.26), 3rd Laura Auberson (21.40). 10k Men: 1st Tom Gleeson (40.43), 2nd Kyle Ostini (41.29), 3rd Jared Sullivan (43.28); 10k Women: 1st Karen Neal (46.57), 2nd Lyn Stannus (48.40), 3rd Kim Jarvis (56.55).

Conversely our next meet was at Elephant Park on Wednesday afternoon and the conditions were extremely cold. This did not deter 70 people who turned up for the 3k event. A few runners were able to go a step further and record personal best times. Leading the charge was Brian Penrose (24 seconds), followed by Anthony Daintith (7 seconds), Lily Craig (5 seconds) and Bryce Ostini (2 seconds). A notable spectator for this meet was Kyle Ostini. All of his family have been infected by the common cold. Despite being the quickest runner in his family over 3k, Kyle was no match for the Common Cold! But Kyle intends to compete next Wednesday in the Western Region School Cross Country Carnival. Good luck on behalf of the orange Runners’ Club.

On the topic of Cross Country Carnivals, the Catholic Schools held their cross country carnival last Wed at Cudal. Orange Runners’ Club members Connor Whiteley won the boys under 12 yrs event and Annie Miller came 6th in the girls under 11 yrs event. These great results mean that both runners have qualified for the Catholic State Cross Country Carnival. Well done.

Congratulations to the Williamson’s on a great effort at the Adidas Sydney 10k last Saturday at Olympic Park. Mitch ran a pb, slashing his time by 20 seconds (33.11) to come 38th. Carrie (47.31) came 442nd and Nicole (48.32) came 472nd out of 650 people.

The Grenfell Fun Run will be held this Saturday at 10am, at the showground. It coincides with the Henry Lawson Long Weekend Festival.

We meet at the Botanic Gardens this Sunday (3.2k/4.8k/8k) at 10am and as usual at Elephant Park on Wednesday (3k) at 4.45pm.
