The Runners Club recently held its AGM; this was a great chance for the 30 odd club members in attendance to voice their opinion and ideas. The main point of discussion being the focus of storage shed to be built alongside the amenities block at Elephant Park. The shed has created a lot of discussion in recent years and is considered a necessity for the club. The 2013 committee was elected and all positions were filled with only a few changes Frank Ostini was re-elected as President with Jane Fairgrieve as Vice President, Treasurer is Bill Fairgreive and Mike Cooper remains as the club Secretary. The Running Festival was acknowledged for its huge success and will be once again lead by Kim Roweth, Anthony Daintith, Judy Tarleton and Brian Sharp in 2013. Special thanks were also made to outgoing Vice President Joel Kitto and Treasurer Stu Vidler.

Last Sunday’s Bulgas Road handicap once again tested everyone’s nerve with a 1k uphill climb to the finish not even the 3k distance runners could escape the dreaded finish. The 3k was a family affair with Monique and Brandon Connolly both finishing first. It was more of the same in the 5k with Amber and Jim Rich matching the Connolly’s for line honours in their event. Unfortunately Estelle and Matt Dean let the side down in the 10k with both managing second in what is considered one of the hardest courses on the running calendar. Liz Simpson crossed the line first only 4 seconds ahead of Estelle; while Steve Martin managed to put 32 seconds on Matt after the 5k turnaround point. Handicap winner of the day was Julie Hudson who just clocked over the hour for the 10k.

Conditions for Wednesday’s handicap were perfect for running and the handicap winner was Luka Milhalich in a time of 12:16. Surprisingly there were only 4 Pb’s on the evening they were Anthony Daintith 4 seconds, Jamie Corcoran 18 seconds, Hugh Corcoran 15 seconds and Jen Owens 40 seconds.
