On the weekend the Club’s main event, the Orange Running Festival was held and it was another successful event thanks to co-ordinator Stew Vidler and his hard working committee and of course the army of volunteers. There were some great stories from the weekend and unfortunately I can’t mention all of the club members who contributed to the weekend or who ran in an event but congratulations to all.

 

To the results and it all started with the Pete’s Car Wash 2km kids challenge on Saturday and our star studded juniors dominated. Lachlan Ross was the overall winner in a time of 8:08. Elliot Bangert (8:13) was second and Darcy Hamling (8:27) third. Sophie Martin was right up there amongst them as she took out the girls category in 8:24. Abigail Francis (9:10) was first in her age category (9-10) and also secured third girl home overall in a very tight finish. Also picking up age category placings were:

First – Hannah Gross (7-8), Samuel Gross (9-10),

Second Eva Keegan (9-10) and

Third Oliver Chandler-Sullivan (9-10), Lily Bangert (9-10).

 

In the Hotel Canobolas 5km race our best performer was Mitch Williamson (17:14) who was second overall and first in his age category while Lauren Kerwick (18:53) was second female home and first in her age category. A huge contingent of club runners picked up age category placings including:

First – Lily Bangert (9 and under)Elliot Bangert (10-11), Rikky Bangert (12-13), Ethan Buesnell (14-15), Jessie Dean (14-15), Jack Bilton (18-19), Amber Rich (20-29), Nicole Williamson (30-39), Ian Fischer (40-49), Cassandra Bland (40-49) and Norma Bradley (70+).

Second – Sophie Martin (10-11), Ella Lamrock (12-13), Matt Dean (40-49) and Mike Cooper (50-59).

Third – Eva Keegan (10-11), Abby Dean (12-13), Caitlyn Broadfoot (14-15), Kaitlyn Gross (16-17), Bailey Penrose (16-17), Toby Betts (18-19) and Jackson Boucher (30-39).

The Westfund Health 10km saw Mitch Williamson (34:55) finish third overall and first in his age category.

Placing in their age categories were:

First – Lawson Hamling (13 and under), Estelle Dean (40-49), Greg Shapter (60-69) and Wayne Stewart (70+).

Second – Lachlan Ross (13 and under) and Russell Tym (60-69).

Third – Basil Baldwin (70+).

 

The Athletes Foot Half Marathon saw Nathan Sutherland (1:20:35) finish with the fastest time and an age category winner. Leanne Corcoran (1:33:33) was our fastest female and second in her age category.

Also winning their age group were Zoe Peters (19 and under), Jared Sullivan (40-49), Brad Simmons (50-59) and Karen Neal (50-59).

Iain McLean (40-49) came second in his category.

 

In the JP Hotel Brokers Marathon our fastest male and female club representatives were Mitch Essex (3:24:40) and Alison Broughton (4:45:55).

Also this weekend Meg Reeves ran the Q1 Stair Climb Challenge in Queensland. She came in 1st female and 4th overall position.

 

On Wednesday at Elephant Park 90 starters completed their laps before the clubs AGM with Iain McLean (10:43) setting the fastest time of the day While Liz Simpson (11:16) was the fastest female. Young Amelia Hogben (14:25) ran three consistent laps to win on handicap. Setting personal bests on the night were Thomas Hogben 9s, Cameron Ross 12s, Rebecca Jaques 9s and Yvette Black 25s.

 

The Sunday Club run returns this weekend with the Pinnacle being the course which will be a good warm up to the Volcanic Challenge later this month.
