Family affair

 In CWD Articles

It was a beautiful sunny day at Clergate on Sunday, however most of the 81 members found the going a bit tough due to the sudden onset of the warmer weather.   Speaking of which, now that summer has arrived it is extremely important to stay well hydrated before and after the runs.

Sunday’s winner is an individual who never worries about the weather conditions, consistently running in all climates.  Whether she is contesting the 3k or 21kms, she always gives 100% and is one of ORCs esteemed members, the quite achiever, Julie Fitzpatrick.  Julie sometimes flies under the radar amongst a talented family including daughter Rhianna and husband Tony, but she is constantly improving week in, week out.  Congratulations, excellent effort Julie, keep up the good work.

Orange Runners Club is certainly a family affair, just look at the results from Sunday below.  Runner s father and son Anthony and Jack Dainith, father and daughter Jim and Amber Rich and brother and sister Mitch and Nicole Williamson, all achieving a top three placing in their respective distances.  The rivalry is usually friendly but no doubt there is a bit of sledging behind the scenes at home prior to and after competition.  It is also wonderful to see Nicole Williamson in form and receiving a top three female finish, together with overall winner brother Mitch, in Forbes recently.  Sister Carrie also achieved a great time, what a talented trio.   Keep up the training guys, you are all on fire.

As the festive season is almost upon us, jot down this date in your diary.  ORC will hold its annual Christmas party on Sunday, 4th December at 12 noon.  This get together will be held at the Bloomfield Country Club and all members are welcome.  Please place you names on an envelope and include $10 a single or $15 per family and give to Francis.  A BBQ luncheon, drinks, some healthy treats of lollies and chips for the young , or young at heart, will be provided.   Following lunch a presentation of the following awards will also take place.  The six categories are:- Most Improved Runner, Most Consistent Runner, Most Consistent Mid Week Runner, Most Consistent Junior Runner, Junior Runner of the Year and Runner of the Year.  If you would like to nominate someone for Junior Runner of the Year and/or Runner of the Year please collect a nomination form from Frank, complete and return in a sealed envelope to Mike Cooper by 19th November 2011.  Please note, no late nominations will be accepted.

The Orange Running Festival in March is also fast approaching with much to organise prior to and on the day of the event.  If you would like to assist please contact Trish Frost for more details.  Many hands make light work and the event has always been successful due to thorough planning and teamwork.  The more volunteers we have to help, the more pleasant the experience for all.  Special thanks to those who have already started the ball rolling.
