ORC goes back to University

 In CWD Articles

The Orange Runners’ Club ran around the local Charles Sturt University campus last Sunday. Before the run we had our usual pre-race lecture by the president on the club, Frank Ostini. After this we had a special guest speaker, the president of the Goldseekers Orienteering Club and Orange Runners’ Club member, Basil Baldwin. Basil wanted to make our visit to the university an educational experience by offering theoretical and practical skills in orienteering. He set up a 1.5k course, with markers scattered around the campus corresponding to a map of the area. After the club run many people stayed for orienteering. They were given maps and timing chips and away they went. Some completed the course in 7 minutes and others I suspect got disorientated! But in the end everybody made it back safely and had a great time.

Results for Charles Sturt University run 2.9k Men: 1st Brian Penrose (16.21), 2nd Logan Whiteley (16.23), 3rd Martin Ryan (16.31); 2.9k Women: 1st Katelyn Strike (13.19), 2nd Lauralie Francis (14.53), 3rd Lynda Jones (18.30). 5.8k Men: 1st Connor Whiteley (24.06), 2nd Anthony Daintith (24.42), 3rd Jack Daintith (25.08); 5.8k Women: 1st Amber Rich (24.45), 2nd Nicole Williamson (27.13), 3rd Frehiwot Ward (27.35). 8.7k Men: 1st Tom Gleeson (34.47), 2nd Neil Williams (35.01), 3rd Kyle Ostini (35.59); 8.7k Women: 1st Laura Wolfson (38.07), 2nd Karen Neal (39.24), 3rd Janet Martin (41.05). Danielle Syme was the overall winner, on handicap, out of 83 competitors.

Like usual our mid week run was at Elephant Park. 92 people turned up for the 3k handicapped run, with Liam McLean being first to cross the finish line. Surprisingly personal best times were not recorded by the regulars: Anthony, Brian and Daryl. However pb’s were recorded by Jack Daintith (5 seconds), Janet Martin (6 seconds), Al Merrifield (14 seconds), Simon Lun (16 seconds), Kinisha Roweth (16 seconds), Richard Eggleston (21 seconds), Alison Kittel (26 seconds) and a massive improvement by Louise Lloyd (64 seconds). Well done to you all.

Some members from our club are going up to the Gold Coast this weekend for a running festival. Brett Sammut has entered in the marathon. Jane and Bill Fairgrieve, Karen Neal, Maree Moss and Lynda Chapman have entered in the half-marathon. Wayne Stewart has entered in the 10k run. The Orange Runners’ Club wish you all well and we will be with you in spirit (and spirits after the event!).

We run at Bulgas Road this Sunday at 10am (10k/5k and 3k events) and at Elephant Park on Wednesday at 4.45pm (3k event).
