President’s Report : March 2016

 In Presidents Reports

Hello everyone, hope you are all well and looking forward to the numerous autumn events coming up.

The most important thing at this stage is of course the success of our running festival.  The Orange Colour City Running Festival was tremendous!  The Committee should be so proud of themselves for staging another successful event.  Headed up by David Gibson what a team, so clever, practical and hardworking.  I know they were all exhausted by Sunday night  from the amount of work, actually months of work, that goes into preparing the running festival.  Helping David has been Ursula Wilson, John Betts, Tim Edmonstone, Iain McLean, Amanda Gregor, Alison Spurway and Renai McArdle, followed by their numerous henchmen/women! The weekend saw our club members come out of the woodwork to help with all the various jobs that needed doing so to you all many many thanks.  Your time and participation in bringing the festival to life is never taken for granted, because without your help it just wouldn’t happen.  David will present a report at the AGM of how it all went so that should be interesting.

Talking of the AGM, we have set the date for 4th  April at 6.00p.m. at Anson Street School.

Thank you to Bec Halls for allowing us to use the hall that night.  We will order in pizza and if you could bring a small plate would be appreciated.
As with all AGM’s all positions on the ORC and OCCRF will be declared vacant.
This year Billy and myself have decided we will not be standing again for President or Treasurer.  We consider it is time for someone else to step up.  We have been members of ORC for nearly 15 years of which we have both taken on a role, of some sort, for 12 of those years so its time for a break.  The main concern is the Treasurer’s job, so if you have any bookkeeping or accounting skills please have a word with Bill – we would love to hear from you!!!  In relation to the President’s job, please see me for a full rundown on “what is what”.  I must also advise that Graham has indicated he will not be standing again for a committee position and Alison has also indicated she will be stepping down as well.  Please have a chat with Graham and/or Alison if you are interested in either the Vice President job or Secretary.  We have over 550 members so I am sure there are plenty of people out there willing to give to the club and progress the club forward for the 2016/2017 period.

I reiterate, if you are interested in any position please see us as soon as possible so we can advise you of what is all involved with each role.

I still have a lot of outstanding handicap prize winners, so please see me as soon as possible to collect your prize if you are a winner.

Thank you to Joy and Mark Harvey for taking the mats to the Sunday runs.  This month the mats will be under the control of Anthony Daintith.  Thank you.

At the running festival I managed to get rid of a lot of singlets, which I am pleased about as they have been hanging around for 2 years now.  I do have one grey long sleeved training top left – size medium – $20.  First in best dressed..

The Canberra Running Festival will be coming up on the 9 April.  From what I hear there seems to be quite a few attending the festival.  I will put out a list to see if anyone is interested in attending dinner on the Saturday night at the East Lakes Club.  We have been there previous years and they seem to be able to cope with a large number of folk.  If you are interested, please put your name on the list.

Speaking of April, Relay for Life is on 2 April.  I have previously sent out an email advising that Sandy Ostini is looking for people to join her and her team – Robin Hood – for the weekend.  If you are interested in helping Sandy, please register on-line under the Relay for Life.  In the event that you are unable to participate but would like to give a donation to the Relay for Life, please put your money in an envelope  (with your name, address and phone number on the front) and give it to me – I will make sure that Sandy gets it.  Remember, any donations over $2 are tax deductible.  If you want more information please contact me or Sandy on 0407638379.

Well this is my last President’s Report, so I hope I haven’t bored you too much over the last 2 years.  It has been a pleasure to be part of the ORC committee, and as you all know Orange Runners Club is very close to our hearts and the day Billy and I joined the club was a great step forward as we have made wonderful, and very close friends, shared happy times and unfortunately some sad times with these friends.   Its a great club, easy going, no unpleasantness, and everyone is respectful of each other no matter what their ability is on the running course and thats what Orange Runners Club is all about!  In the words of the Late Jordan Cheney – Together with Achieve Individual Goals.

Take care and I will see you at the back of the pack plodding along.

Regards

Jane
